È disponibile online in edizione italiana integrale il Manuale Merck, il testo più venduto e più consultato della medicina moderna. Essenziale, sintetico e ricchissimo di informazione copre tutte le specialità mediche e la farmacologia clinica. Ottima anche la sezione di neurologia con la dettagliata descrizione dell'esame obiettivo neurologico e delle procedure diagnostiche in neurologia. Sono coperti molti argomenti di cui altrimenti in lingua italiana si trova poca informazione (o la solita informazione spesso chiacchierona e superficiale dei grandi portali). Sul Manuale Merck invece: cause, sintomi, terapia e prognosi con informazioni dettagliate anche per quanto riguarda i farmaci e la loro posologia. Ricchissimo il contenuto delle tabelle. Il tutto completato da una funzione di ricerca interna. L'unico punto debole è che si tratta della edizione americana del 1999 del 'Merck Manual' (ma considerando la qualità del contenuto è un aspetto trascurabile, la medicina non cambia così drasticamente nel giro di tre anni).[..] [neurologia.it]

Da Cap. Nemo la questione del GPS europeo:

Il Dipartimento della Difesa USA (DOD) è inferocito con l'Unione Europea a proposito del possibile conflitto di segnali tra il 'loro' GPS e quello di Galileo (sponsorizzato dalla UE). Sostanzialmente i militari americani vogliono avere il monopolio del sistema GPS, in modo che - in caso di conflitti - possano 'spegnere' i sateliiti che forniscono questo servizio ed impedire alle forze armate nemiche di avere un vantaggio. La UE, dal canto suo, vuole lanciare il GPS Galileo a pagamento per uso civile (documenti UE pdf qui)........Gli Americani minacciano di far ricorso a ritorsioni in sede NATO: del resto - nella loro ottica di controllo totale di quello che accade sul pianeta a livello militare - la loro reazione è perfettamente comprensibile. Come nei film di fantascienza, solo un ad Generale USA è permesso poter dire : "Turn the fucking GPS satellyte off, NOW !!"........e tu magari sei in alta montagna, in mezzo ad una tempesta, e leggi sul display del tuo prezioso gadget 'No Signal'. Aggiungo che sulla delicata questione che gli USA hanno una percentuale spropositata dell'intera potenza militare mondiale, ci sono analisi interessanti e pacate su Economist, qui, qui e qui.
