Joel Spolsky on why is time to use Firefox:
Microsoft took over the browser market fair and square by making a better product, but they were so afraid that Web-based applications would eliminate the need for Windows that they locked the IE team in a dark dungeon and they haven't allowed improvements to IE for several years now. [Joel on Software]
Update: Joel on the same subject, API Wars. If you are going to read just one article this year, read this one.
No developer with a day job has time to keep up with all the new development tools coming out of Redmond, if only because there are too many dang employees at Microsoft making development tools![API Wars]

U S E F U L !
Highlight. Highlight is a tool to syntax-color source code. I haven't tried it, but it seems very impressive: it supports 100 source languages, and writes output in a bunch of formats (HTML, RTF, TeX, XSL-FO, for example). [Ned Batchelder's blog]

Category: pearls of wisdom:

The weblog is a very good instrument for expressing oneself and for communicating among a restricted circle of people. As Gaspar Torriero pointed out, it does not make any more sense to believe in blogs than in screwdrivers: they are both tools. As with the proverbial hammer the danger is that everything might look like a nail, and the tool that one is most familiar with might be used for tasks that could be better tackled with a more suitable tool.[Lazy Idle Thougths]
